Chrome on Android just got stronger safety tools for people at higher risk

Google is adding stronger safety options to Chrome on Android through Android’s Advanced Protection, including safer website connections, better separation between sites, and stricter browser behavior to reduce harmful web attacks. Even people not enrolled in Advanced Protection can turn on some of these settings manually in Chrome.

Who is at risk

Android users who rely on Chrome—especially journalists, public officials, activists, public figures, and anyone who often uses public Wi-Fi or handles sensitive information—are most at risk.

What to watch for

Watch for Chrome warnings that a website is not using a secure connection, especially when browsing on public networks or visiting unfamiliar sites.

What to do

Open Chrome on your Android device, go to Privacy and Security settings, turn on “Always Use Secure Connections,” and make sure both Chrome and Android automatic updates are enabled.
