Hackers Don’t Take Fridays Off: New Apple Pay Scam Targeting Users With Fake Fraud Alerts

Apple Pay users are being targeted by a convincing scam email that looks like an official fraud alert. The message urges people to call a “support” number, where scammers trick them into sharing a real-time verification code, giving attackers access to the account.

Who is at risk

Anyone who uses Apple Pay or has an Apple ID linked to payment methods.

What to watch for

Watch for urgent Apple Pay fraud emails telling you to call a phone number or schedule a security “appointment.” Notifications might include phrasing like the following: “irregular actions connected to your Apple iCloud account: This includes a recent pre- authorization attempt for $142.93 at “APPLE STORE – CA” using Apple Pay.”

What to do

Do not share any verification codes and only check account alerts directly through your Apple device settings.
