Fake Adobe site may be helping criminals trick Windows users
A fake website made to look like Adobe Acrobat Reader is being used to trick Windows users into downloading harmful files. The scam may appear in messages or documents that look related to invoices, payments, or file viewing, but clicking or downloading can put your computer at risk.
Who is at risk
Windows users who download files or software from links in emails, messages, ads, or unfamiliar websites are most at risk.
What to watch for
Watch for unexpected prompts to download a file viewer, open an invoice, or run a file from a website that looks like Adobe but is not the official Adobe site.
What to do
Only download Adobe Reader from Adobe’s official website, avoid opening unexpected file downloads, and delete any suspicious file you recently downloaded without running it.
