FBI warning: Hackers are breaking into online accounts to steal explicit photos and videos
The FBI is warning that criminals are breaking into social media and other online accounts to steal private intimate photos and videos from both adults and children. They may then use that content to threaten, embarrass, or exploit victims.
Who is at risk
Anyone who stores, shares, or receives private photos or videos online is at risk, especially teens, children, and people with social media, cloud storage, or messaging accounts.
What to watch for
Watch for unexpected login alerts, password reset messages you did not request, missing or newly downloaded private content, and strangers contacting you about personal photos or videos.
What to do
Immediately change your passwords, turn on two-step sign-in for important accounts, review where your private photos and videos are stored, and remove any you do not need online.
