⚠️ WhatsApp Advisory

Scammers are sending fake document files through WhatsApp messages to trick people into opening them on a computer. If opened, the file can quietly install remote access software that may let criminals control the device or steal information.

Who is at risk

Anyone using WhatsApp on a computer through the desktop app or web browser is most at risk, especially if they open unexpected file attachments.

What to watch for

Watch for unexpected WhatsApp messages with document attachments, strange file names, or messages urging you to open a file quickly.

What to do

Do not open unexpected attachments in WhatsApp on your computer, delete suspicious messages, and run a trusted security scan if you already opened one.
