NatJack attack can hijack internet connections by abusing router address translation

A newly disclosed attack method shows that weaknesses in some internet and office network equipment could let an attacker interfere with active online connections and reroute or disrupt traffic. While this is mainly a concern for organizations that manage their own networks, it could affect people if the systems they rely on are not updated and monitored.

Who is at risk

Businesses, schools, government offices, and internet providers that use affected network equipment are most at risk, along with the people who depend on those services.

What to watch for

Watch for sudden connection drops, repeated sign-outs, unusual website behavior, or internet services acting strangely on work or public networks.

What to do

If you manage a network, urgently check for security updates from your equipment vendors and ask your IT team to review and strengthen internet gateway and router protections.
