Hackers tied to Russia and China tried to misuse Claude, Anthropic says
Anthropic says criminal and government-linked groups tried to misuse its Claude AI tool to help find hidden keys, passwords, and other sensitive data inside about 1.8 million Android apps. This is mainly a warning that attackers are using AI to speed up attacks against apps and the people who use them.
Who is at risk
People who use Android apps, especially banking, work, messaging, shopping, or other apps that store personal or payment information, may be most at risk.
What to watch for
Watch for unexpected app sign-ins, password reset messages, strange charges, pop-ups asking you to log in again, or apps behaving oddly after an update.
What to do
Update your Android apps and phone, turn on two-step verification for important accounts, and change passwords for sensitive apps if you reuse them anywhere else.
