Fake macOS update ads used to steal cryptocurrency
A new scam is targeting Mac users by sending them to fake websites that show a made-up software update screen and trick them into installing harmful software. The goal appears to be stealing cryptocurrency and other sensitive information from victims.

Mac users are most at risk, especially people who use cryptocurrency accounts, store financial information on their device, or install updates after clicking online ads or unexpected links.
What to watch for
Watch for sudden full-screen update messages in your browser, update prompts that appear after clicking an ad or search result, or requests to download and run a file to update your Mac.
What to do
Only install updates through your Mac’s built-in System Settings and, if you saw one of these fake update screens or installed anything from it, disconnect from the internet and seek trusted technical help right away.
