Hundreds of Chrome add-ons may have let others see what people searched
A large group of Chrome add-ons, including fake PDF and search tools, quietly redirected people’s searches through systems controlled by the add-on makers. This may have allowed those operators to see what users were searching for, affecting an estimated 13.4 million people.
Who is at risk
Anyone who uses Google Chrome and has installed browser add-ons, especially free tools for PDFs, search, coupons, or convenience features, may be at risk.
What to watch for
Watch for unfamiliar add-ons in Chrome, unexpected changes to search behavior, new tabs or pop-ups, or a browser that suddenly feels slower or acts differently.
What to do
Review your Chrome add-ons immediately, remove any you do not recognize or no longer need, and keep only those from trusted companies with clear purpose and strong recent reviews.
