A simple text message could make some Android phones crash
A newly reported phone bug can cause some Android devices to freeze or restart when they receive a specially crafted text message. In some cases, the phone’s messaging app may keep crashing until the harmful message is removed or the device is updated.
Who is at risk
People using Android phones, especially those with older software or delayed security updates, are most at risk.
What to watch for
Watch for your phone suddenly freezing, restarting, or your text messaging app repeatedly closing after receiving a new message from an unknown number.
What to do
Update your Android phone and messaging apps right away, avoid opening suspicious texts, and if problems start, delete the latest unknown message from another device or in safe mode if possible.
